The gallery contains two picture frames. One with a view to new arrivals to the museum sliding past the viewers' gaze with only their packaging giving clues as to their contents. The second contains the continuous 'nature morte', providing a constant slow moving shift, changing the ambience of the of the Cafe/Gallery. Sitting above the gallery space, hangs the research facility. This space is entered from the public square and allows researchers, students and interested members of the public to order specific items of interest that are delivered to the research space, much in the way you would order a book from the British library or a song on a juke box.
Entering the site to the South you pass a cafe (housing artist studios above) that provides the first glimpses down into the depths of the storage facility and curating area. Pass this and you enter the public square, serving as the entrance to the museum, surrounded on three sides by housing, providing an animated facades to the square. The third edge of the site is bounded by a slab of storage accommodation that has non-perishable artefacts on plinths to the North and a display wall to the South providing an interaction with the urban grain. The public square has set within it mounds that house objects that are arranged to entice or intrigue the public to draw them to the rest of the museum.
The scheme is arranged in such a way that there are public walkways around all four sides of the site, including a new canal way that passes the public face of the gallery.
